Overview

Southcliff House overlooks the Irish Sea from the village of Portpatrick, a place shaped by sea air, big skies, and a strong sense of community. The house comfortably sleeps 10, with additional sofa beds for up to two more guests. It’s designed for families and friends to come together, whether over shared meals, a game of pool, or coastal walks that clear the mind, while still offering plenty of space for everyone to unwind. What Southcliff House does best is balance togetherness with the freedom to step away and enjoy a little quiet time. Just a 10-minute drive away, Stranraer provides everything you might need, from supermarkets to a pharmacy and train station.

The House

Southcliff House is a large Edwardian home, originally built in 1907, with a long history of bringing people together. In 2013, our family took it on and carefully restored it, transforming it into a high-end, welcoming B&B. After several successful years, we reimagined the space again in 2018, this time as a private house, designed for one group to enjoy in complete comfort.

Set in rural southwest Scotland, it offers that rare sense of switching off from the pace of everyday life, where time slows and simple pleasures take over. With this in mind, we created a games room for both fun and relaxation, complete with a pool table, dart board, board games, and a collection of books. Outdoors, the terrace and BBQ provide the perfect setting for long, relaxed evenings, especially as the sun sets over the sea.

Food and time together have always been at the heart of our family, so creating a well-equipped, sociable kitchen was essential. It’s the space we naturally gather in, whether for slow breakfasts or long dinners, and one that brings everyone together with ease. Southcliff House is made for celebrating special occasions, marking the seasons, or simply enjoying uninterrupted time with the people who matter most.
